Aussie, Aussie, Aussie: How to be both stylish and patriotic this Australia Day

AusDay (6)

Tomorrow is Australia Day but if you don’t feel like slapping on the zinc or wearing a flag tattoo, here are my top picks to stylishly embrace all that our island home has to offer, served up with a soundtrack of Aussie tunes.

Hey, True Blue:  I have Elk Accessories bags, shoes and jewellery in a range of gorgeous colours but I always think of this dusty blue as being a classic Elk hue. I’ve worn this wooden necklace for years and it is still my go-to to dress up a simple white t-shirt and jeans.

Beds are burning: Well, I certainly hope not, but if you want to burn something, make it a gorgeous Australian-made Glasshouse candle in Esperance: mimosa and wild apple.

Our land is girt by sea: Time to splash out on a new swimsuit? It doesn’t matter if you call them bathers, togs or swimmers – if you’re curvy like me, then embrace the pin-up glamour and retro styling of Australian-designed Sirens Swimwear. I love my French navy floral ‘Grace’ style but I have my eye on some of their new suits too!

I love a sunburnt country: But I don’t want to get burnt! Mr M gave me this gorgeous Akubra hat for Christmas, from R.M. Williams, so I’ll be sun-smart and stylish tomorrow.

Our land abounds in nature’s gifts: I love this gorgeous Angus & Celeste vase, a birthday gift from my glamorous friend Miss F.

He gave me a Vegemite sandwich: Love it or hate it, it belongs on this list. How do I eat Vegemite? On toast with cheese!

Throw your arms around these: 3 for under $30
Here are some more of my favourite Aussie finds, conveniently available online so you can shop while playing backyard cricket:

Candle / $29. Fig and melon? Now that sounds like summer to me. These beautiful White Horse Home candles are hand-poured in Sydney but if you want to support a regional South Australian business, you can buy them from the wonderful Jodie at Pretty Rustic.

Earrings / $25. These dear little clay earrings are made by the lovely Lucy in Western Australia and are available from Down That Little Lane.

Tea towel / $24. Mr M and I already have three real kelpies but I’m tempted to add a fourth with this gorgeous tea towel. It is hand printed by Paloma in NSW and available from Down That Little Lane.

How will you be celebrating Australia Day?

Love, Mrs M xx

  1. Hello Mrs M, Australia Day for me went pretty much along the standard ones – pool, prawns and wine. But on holding to the theme, this year of me cloning some of your style, jewellery and a gorgeous little clutch. I am also trying out a recipe a week from my cook books. Therefore on holding to all things Australian for the day, decided to cook a pavlova. Lets just say it did not go according to plan, i may have had more of a pizza base than a pav, but presentation aside it was still delicious. Just have to work on my stiff peaks.😄Thanks for the inspiration. X
